  UMT President, Yanping Chen, MD, PhD, PMP, Designated as A Fellow of the Project Management Institute

UMT is pleased to announce that its president, Yanping Chen, MD, PhD, PMP, has been designated by the Project Management Institute (PMI,) the world's largest association for project managers, as a Fellow of the Institute. The PMI Fellow Award, which is the most prestigious award that PMI confers on an individual, was presented during PMI's annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, 20 October 2012 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Canada.
 
About the Recipient

Dr. Chen is President of the University of Management and Technology, an accredited US-based university that delivers project management degree programs globally, offering academic scholarships to promote project management higher learning through the PMI Education Foundation. She served the Project Management Institute as a volunteer for twenty years. In the early and mid-1990s, she was deputy director of the Project Management Professional Certification Committee. She was elected to sit on the PMI global Board of Directors for six years (2005-2010), where she served as Vice Chair of the Board and headed several Board committees.

A cardiologist turned program manager, Dr. Chen served as Director of Planning for the China manned space flight program and was responsible for managing more than 200 projects and programs concurrently during the 1980s. Her group established the groundwork for China's launch of astronauts into space beginning in 2003.

Dr. Chen was the first Chinese citizen to earn the Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential. Her volunteer involvement with PMI began in 1992 when she served the PMI Certification Committee as its Deputy Director. Throughout the 1990s, she served as PMI's ambassador to promote PMI and its certification program in China, including the translation of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) into Chinese. She was instrumental in facilitating PMI's collaboration with the Chinese government to launch the PMP exam in China. She served on the PMI Registered Education Provider (REP) Advisory Group, and was elected two terms to serve on PMI's Board of Directors, in 2005-2010. While on the Board, Dr. Chen held positions as PMI Officer and PMI Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, and chaired two task forces on PMI Core Values and PMI Board Building.

During her career, Dr. Chen also served as director of four Chinese professional scientific societies, and received national awards in space medical research on eight occasions. She served as an International Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution from 1991-92, and resident & CEO of Yankee Clipper Group from 1992-98. She has published more than 20 scientific articles and authored two books, including Principles of Contracting for Project Management. She earned her PhD in Public Policy and MA in Science and Technology Policy from George Washington University, and earned the MD in China.

UMT is pleased to announce that it has been named as a "Military-Friendly University" by the Military Advanced Education (MAE) magazine for the 3rd consecutive year. UMT is listed in the MAE's Annual Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities, published in December 2012.

  UMT President and Academic Dean meet President William J. Clinton

Dr. Yanping Chen, UMT President and PMI Board of Directors, and Dr. J. Davidson Frame, UMT Academic Dean and PMI Fellow, met President Clinton in a private reception honoring him as PMI Global Congress keynote speaker in Washington DC, USA. PMI arranged this private reception and meeting to celebrate the service and dedication of Dr. Chen and Dr. Frame to the Project Management Institute and project management profession.

  UMT Enrollments Rank in Top Ten for Air University Associate-to-Bachelor Cooperative Program

The University of Management and Technology (UMT) is pleased to disclose that, since joining Air University’s Associate-to-Baccalaureate Cooperative (AU-ABC) program in 2007, it has earned a prominent place on the exclusive, short list of schools allowed to participate.

UMT enrollments of USAF servicemembers currently rank in the top ten among AU-ABC participant schools, according to data maintained by the Academic Institution Portal – which allows information sharing between Academic Institutions and Department of Defense Systems for Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS), Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC) and Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA).

Successful completion of any of the CCAF AAS degrees guarantees the Airman or woman 60 semester credit-hours transfer (of which at least 15 will count as general education) toward a UMT bachelor's degree.

  Dr. Yanping Chen, president of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) and Project Management Institute (PMI) Vice Chair, attended the Forbes Leadership Networks Forum in Boston on 19 June 2008.
 

This annual event is attended by executives from the fortune 500 companies as well as other global business leaders. The main topic of this year’s forum is innovation.

  Dr. Yanping Chen has been elected Vice Chair of the Project Management Institute (PMI) for 2008. She has been a Director-at-Large on the 15-person PMI Board of Directors — representing over 250,000 PMI members in 171 counties — since 2005 and is currently serving her second term, which is from 2008 to 2010.

  UMT's President, Dr. Yanping Chen participated in the NASA PM Challenge Conference 2007. NASA's ASK OCE (Office of the Chief Engineer) interviewed Dr. Chen and PMI's President, Greg Balestrero. As a former China space program expert and a PMI Board of Director, Dr. Chen raised issues and challeges on how to manage program and project knowledge internally, externally and cross-generationally.
   
WASHINGTON DC, Janaury 4, 2007
  UMT 's Academic Dean, Dr. J. Davidson Frame was the guest speaker at the Washington DC Chapter's International Project Management Day celebration. The International Project Management Day is on 2 November every year. It's "a day of recognition of project managers and the important contributions they make in business, government, community and not-for-profit environments."

  UMT earned Specialized and Professional Accreditation for its Project Management degrees by the Global Accreditation Center (GAC) for the Project Management Institute® (PMI). GAC is the governing body for the policies, procedures, and standards for the accreditation of university degree programs related to project management.
