The University of Management and Technology held its 2015 commencement ceremony and reception on June 20, at the Artisphere in Arlington, VA. UMT alumni who graduated in the past five years were invited. Close to 250 participants from the US and overseas attended.

During the ceremony, UMT faculty and graduates, shared stories of their unique journeys for higher education at UMT.

Dr. S. David Burke, a UMT faculty member who also earned a Doctor of Business Administration degree from UMT, reminded the graduates to not only celebrate the achievement of earning a degree but to also remember that it was the decision to attend UMT and apply the mind to study that had brought everyone to commencement day. He also challenged the graduates to make good choices on what to do with the degree and knowledge gained.

Mr. James J. Johnson, who completed three degrees with UMT, recounted his journey from a youth who didn’t take school seriously, to becoming an experienced Army contractor without the education that validated his work experience, to achieving this validation by earning his degrees from UMT while fulfilling a demanding job that requires frequent travels.

Mr. Francis J. Piacine, a UMT faculty member who received a Master of Science in Management from UMT, thanked UMT for providing a veteran-friendly environment and innovative quality instruction, praised the quality of the UMT students and encouraged graduates to: "Seek to produce outputs of high value that benefit the people you love and the world around you."

Dr. Chen, UMT's founder and President, reviewed the university’s achievements over the past 17 years since it was founded in 1998. Dr. J. Davidson Frame, UMT co-founder and Academic Dean, recounted UMT's evolution in the changing higher education landscape to meet the demand of working adult learners in the 21st century.

At the conclusion of the ceremony and reception, the graduates gathered at the Iwo Jima Memorial for a group photograph.
